Can the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver be used on SQL Server 7?

The SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver downloaded from Microsoft supports only the SQL Server 2000. If you use it on the SQL Server 7, you will get java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]This version of the JDBC driver only supports Microsoft SQL Server 2000. You can either upgrade to SQL Server 2000 or possibly locate another version of the driver.
