What things should I look for when trying to troubleshoot this please.
Clicking on [Download Manager] launches a browser window with this URL:
http://trackstudio.mywebsite.co.uk:8888 ... 264a960081
but the window remains empty - not even a Java "waiting" symbol.
Should I be looking serverside or browser side - I'm running Firefox 11

It is working fine in Internet Explorer 9.0.8112

It means that you have an uncorrecting Java plugin in your other browsers. Could you try to reinstall it?
